Selection and inspection
Let the player find out about their colony by selecting things. A pawn or a building can be selected by clicking it on the map or by clicking its row in a HUD list, and an inspector panel shows the details of whatever is selected.
Rules (decided 2026-09-30)
- One selection at a time, either a pawn or a building:
GameState.selected. - Selection is what a click means in NONE mode.
InteractionMode.SELECTis removed. - Changing interaction mode clears the selection.
- Clicking a list row selects without moving the camera.
- In PLACE or DEMOLISH, clicks on the lists are ignored and the lists are dimmed. Those modes are left only by doing the action, right-clicking, pressing Esc, or opening the main menu.
- The HUD lists are translucent over the map but still catch the mouse, so a click on a list never reaches the map.
Issues
- #78: selection model and picking on the map (the foundation for the rest)
- #139: Esc and the main menu leave PLACE and DEMOLISH
- #140: pawn list
- #141: building list
- #142: inspector panel
- #136 (in milestone #5) adds worker slot controls to a selected site. It depends on #78 and #142.
- #146: remove duplication of code with an abstract EntityList class
Acceptance criteria
- Any pawn or building can be selected from the map or from its list, and deselected.
- The inspector shows current details for the selection.
- No click on the HUD ever places, demolishes, or leaves a mode.
